PROTO 2000 DIESEL PERFORMANCE WITH RAILCOMMAND

IS ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS RUNNING PROTO DIESELS WITH RAILCOMMAND? THEY RUN, BUT THE "PRECISION" IS POOR AND THE POWER TRAIN ACTS "TIGHT", COMPARED TO ATLAS AND KATO. EVEN MY REMOTORED ATHEARNS RUN BETTER. MY EXPERIENCE IS WITH GP-18, GP-7, AND GP-30'S. I'VE IMPROVED ELECTRICAL CONTACT, LUBRICATION, AND GENERALLY TWEAKED THE MECANISMS AT ALL TO NO AVAIL. THIS HAS BEEN OBSERVED BY SEVERAL LOCAL USERS OF RAILCOMMAND WITH PROTO DIESELS. THE POWERTRAIN APPEARS TO BE A SLOPPY COPY OF THE ATHEARN BUT PARTS ARE NOT ALWAYS INTERCHANGEABLE.
I'VE HEARD ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE THAT THEY RUN VERY WELL ON STRAIGHT DC BUT I'VE NO WAY TO TEST THIS.
I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME FEEDBACK FROM OTHER USED; I AM PUZZLED AND I AM NOT INEXPERIENCED WITH POWERTRAINS.
THANKS

They run fine on EasyDCC which comes from the same place as RailCommand. I witnessed some running on CTC-80 a year or two ago and they ran great. RailCommand is sort of a "souped up" version of CTC-80.

All I can say is that my HO P2K locos run just fine with my Zephyr !
I've got two GP9s and one GP18 with Digitrax DH163L0 decoders, and a SW9 with a NCE SW9-SR decoder.
In my experiance, P2K drives are better than Athearn BB drives, and about on par with the newer, improved RTR and Genesis drives. Having said that, nothing made by LL or Athearn can match the Atlas Master or Kato drives, which are the best in HO.
