Bill, I have a Walthers doodlebug done in N.P. livery. I am happy with how mine operates. It certainly will depend on the steepness of the grade as far as pulling a trailer car will be concerned. However, the model uses only one power truck so traction will be limited. The model has very good slow speed characteristics and I would guess scale like top speeds. It seems slow, when compaired to others however, I think most locos have to much top end. The model is quiet at all speeds. I have converted mine to DCC operation and still don't have it all sorted out as it tends to derail easily. This is due to the extra wiring going from motor to decoder. The detailing is very good, however, somewhat fragile. I like mine very much and can recommend.
