Must admit I didn't vote. I may be an odd ball here but I have no favorite wheel arrangement. Any steam power is my favorite and I purchase my locomotives for the job they will portray and what the railroad I'm modeling used for their motive power. Regards, Ken

The Northerns are the baddest group of steamers, bar none.

Members of this group consist of some of the all-around best steam locomotives. Balance of speed, power, and looks.

I'll take a Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 anyday--my vote goes for the "Texas" type wheel arrangement. Of course, I am little biased with my opinion.

I voted other. I prefer the smaller ones, 4-4-0, 4-6-0, and 2-8-0.

Along with Eriediamond,I didn't vote, as there wasn't a selection for ALL ! I also have no particular favorite wheel arrangement, as steam was pretty much purpose-built , so I will say that I like them ALL, but I will say that the larger steamers are fascinating because of thier abundance of external mechanisms, and thier sheer SIZE[:0].How about thoes Erie Triplexes, now, that's MASS[:D]!!!

How could you leave out the almighty HUDSON 4-6-4? Since that wasn't on the poll, I voted for my favorite freight hauling arrangement, the Northern.

I don't have one myself. I love all steam, especially CPR's.
But if I really had to pick one, I'd pick 4-4-4 Jubilee. Compact but able to do the job.

Central Vemont's 2-10-4, small, capable and has Elesco Feed Water Heater. Anyone know what the minimum HO radius is?

I can't believe that 2-8-8-2 was omitted while 4-4-4-4 was included!

I still voted for the Mountain (4-8-2) because it's something of an oddball, an inbreeding between the Pacific and the Mikado, which were the standard Passenger and Freight types. The 4-8-4's proved more popular and perhaps more versatile, and thus came in many more flavors, especially when it comes to the sexy streamliners. I'm always partial to the fringe, hence my vote.

Of course, I do agree with clinchvalley on the 0-6-6-0, though I'd clarify it as an Alco RSD...

By far the 4-8-8-4! Power, speed, and MASS!!!!! The best steamers ever built, IMO. My second would be the 4-8-4. Nothing beats those FEF's! (except the Big Boy)
