NIce and crisp! [8D] It's good to see a photo of a modern freight train "not pullng" a solid "Trailer on Flat Car or Container train. They've become so redundant!

[;)]Good contrast between the industial setting and the earth and grass in the foreground. We can invade, but nature starts to reclaim territory little by little as this photo shows. This picture will likely soon become a memory as the Conrail "Big Blue" paint scheme is dissappearing under the CSX "throw back to C&O" scheme or the NS jet black.[sigh]

Good job!

Thanks! I'm glad you said that because when this train came in to my viewfinder, the train stopped for an hour! The smoke was from the starting. Yes, CR blue is getting very rare, but here NS power is outnumbered 3 to 1! Intermodal trains used to be redundant redundant redundant (intended) in the area, but now they've sort of died out.

Hawk, that shot is too coooool!

And the 2nd and 3rd units paint schemes will also become history. CSX is reverting to the "C&O throwback" dark blue style and that BN scheme is definetly going bye-bye.

Is that really an ex-BN unit or is it a lease unit from a loco leasing outfit? In any case, great photo that gives modelers even more reasons to pool units on their layouts.

Hey, Hawks I really like that, local and the right size!!! I'd go rail fanning with you, I would even drive, all you would have to do is get here, but its closer to you than Newport, I live just over the river. Email me if you're interested.

PS I'm on my way out the door to run to Hudson to pick up a PIZZA.[:D][:D][:D][dinner]

Hey 44884BigBoy,

[:)]The C&O "Throwback" scheme (actually has 2 or 3 nicknames) refers to the Cheseapeke and Ohio's dark blue and yellow paint scheme before the brightly colored Chessie System post-merger scheme. CSX's new scheme is NOT the same exact one, as the yellow was brighter on the C&O, but the "simplistic style" of the scheme (Dk. blue with Yellow Lettering) is the similarity of what the "C&O Throwback" nickname is referring to. If you'll note the "C" in csx stands for "Chessie".. If you go to Railfan.net you should find some pictures of C&O locomotives in the late 60s-early70s in the dark blue schemes.

According to an article that I read on the web, CSX managment and employees wanted to give the company a "new image". In my humble opinion they were just trying to cut costs as the older post-1988 paint scheme (which I still think is more attractive) was expensive and a simplified scheme would cut paint refinishing costs. As far as the "new look" it's not bad, but I can't give it a trophy for creativity. For attractiveness in a "simple paint scheme", I'd have to say Norfolk Southern with those stripes and the leaping horse wins hands down![C):-)]
