Does the AMD103/P42 DCC ready RTR Locomotive need a DCC decoder, or is it pre installed. If it needs a decoder what brand/type will it be ? i.e Digitrax DH163P

No they only come DCC Quick Plug equipped. A DH123 or similar should work fine.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here. TCS decoders are inexpensive. There is an Athearn specific plug on version you can get if you want to utilize the plug. Beyond inexpensive TCS decoders isolate themselfs from shorts (has saved me twice in the last three months) and have a one year no questions asked warrantee. Even if you make a mistake in the installation you will get a new one simply by mailing it back, and they will not charge you for postage.
