With DCC, the larger the wire the better.

You won't have problems with mismatched wire gauges, the currents or wire runs won't be large enough to be an issue.

For a 5 amp system you should have no problem.

Bus Wire gauge size

I have a question that I think I know the answer to but just need to confirm. I have a lot of 10 gauge wire that is white. I have a lot of 12 gauge wire that is black. Can the 2 bus wires be different gauges or does that create a voltage issue or some other issue? I am modeling in N scale and have a NCE Power Pro system and a PB 105 power booster. Just trying to save a little money since copper wire has become expensive. Thanks.
