Yes, exactly, I like the way you think. I have some TCS decoders for my GP 40's that I have not installed. So staying with that brand and getting familiar with them sounds like the way to go. I'm saying, problem solved and moving forward with TCS. Thanks everybody for your time and suggestions!
If you decide to replace the Lenz with another motor-only decoder, I would highly recommend TCS. The MP-15 is a switcher and you want great motor-control for shunting. LokPilot would be another good option.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
DRGW@Helper BINGO! That is exactly what my little manual says. I have tried all of that with no success. As soon as I hit speed step 1 the loco jumps out of the starting blocks and I can't seem to find the right answer. And this bit/byte register system....No idea how to use that. Sounds like you've been down this murky path. I'm all ears. And mucho gracias!

I think at this point of not being able to ''set up'' that decoder, I'd replace it. Because I have an assortment of decoders on hand, DCC with and without sound.
DRGW@Helper First off, thanks to everyone who replied trying to help. I set CV 8 to 33 loco #003 had no success. Same speed problem. I changed from 28 steps to 128 and loco would not move at all, either direction. I accidentally said writing on decoder was MPC 15 it is CMP 15, sorry. The small manual that came with the loco says this on CV 8: Manufacturer Identification: This value is a code for the manufacturer of the decoder, for the LE 110 naturally Lenz (99). This location is read only. I assume the decoder is an LE 110. In CV 7 the factory setting is 41, I entered that, no change.

Are you reading the manual for a Lenz LE110. That decoader is pre 1998.
CV-1 is loco. address, range of 1-127, factory setting #3.
CV-2 is start voltage, range of 1-15, factory setting #8.
CV-3 is acceleration momentum, range of 1-31, factory setting #1.
CV-4 is brake momentum, range of 1-31, factory setting #1.
CV-7 is version number, read only, setting #41.
CV-8 is manufacture id. read only, setting #99.
Way back then Lenz with their Bit/Byte setting and REGISTER and PAGE MODE was not fun.

MrMe Read CV's 7 and 8, then look it up here to find out what it really is. Then you can get the correct documentation on how to configure it to your liking. And a 2nd suggestion: Download and install JMRI and connect it to your Power Pro. Then JMRI can do all this (and much, much more) for you!

That ''look it up here'' is a very nice list. Thanks MrMe.
What is making you think it is a Lenz decoder. Is the ''writing'' hand written or etched or circuit board trace material? As I look at the Lenz decoders I have dating back to 2002, I do see printed (trace material) "LE###" at the least but not limited to on the circuit board. I'm thinking the Con-Cor MP 15 was last produced around 2010. Any chance it is a "MRC (Model Rectifier Corporaition) decoder. (could you be seeing MPC-but could it be MRC).
Hi DRGW,
to the forum!
First off, I would reset your decoder to original factory settings. For Lenz, it's CV8=33. Once you've done that, cycle power (turn your PH Pro off then back on again) and see if the locomotive operates at address "3". If it does, you've successfully reset your decoder.
Let us also know if that helps your MP15 achieve a more reasonable start speed at speed step 001. Try also setting your throttle to 128 speed steps to see what that does.
Several years age I purchased an HO Con Cor MP 15 loco with a Lenz decoder. The only writing on the decoder is MPC 15 so I guess that is the model number. I am using an NCE Power Pro system with 28 speed steps. When I put the loco on the track and increase to speed step 1 the loco takes off at about 15 scale miles per hour and keeps increasing speed as I increase speed steps. It decreases the same way. I've tried changing CV's 2, 3, and 67 thru 80 with no changes to loco performance. I'm not sure how to change the bits in CV 29. I'm a complete rookie at this so if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks to all in advance.
