CV8 set to 8 does not reset Digitrax decoder
Posted by 1943Mike on Thursday, November 2, 2023 3:39 PM

I model in N scale. I have (or will have) two layouts, a small one in my dining area (3' x 5') and a new one that I'm working on in my garage. I now use the small layout upstairs as a "test" and programming track. I put a switch in that small layout so I can run DC locomotives just to test them before converting them to DCC.

To the point - I've been trying to reset a Digitrax DN163K2 since I befieve I screwed it up ... possibly shorting it. Sometimes, if decoders are not completely fried I can get them to work again by doing a factory reset. However, on this decoder and using my NCE Power Cab, it does not reset. If it were reset it would show 0000 when I'm putting in the long address however, on this decoder it only shows the same address I've been using. I have tried reseting it several times .. using both the program track and the main to enter a value of 8 for CV8 and no joy.

My question is, are there any other digits other than 8 to reset a Digitrax decoder? Are there any other CV's involved?

Before I put this circuit board in my "fried decoders" bin I was hoping someone might offer a different pathway to resetting the decoder.

Mike,

This says to reset it with CV8 and enter '08' not '8'...

Hope this helps...

Neal beat me to it.

I was in your position a few years ago, and I had luck using '08'.  I won't go so far as to claim it will work for you, but it's at least worth a try.
