MRC Command 2000 troubleshooting
Posted by DDunnHandyMan on Friday, October 20, 2023 1:36 PM

I have been running my 30x12 n-scale "empire" on two Command 2000's (one for each main line) with MRC TwinPower Box power packs for each of them.  They have worked fine for my purposes and I like them because I can run my analog and DCC locos together with no problems.

So, all of a sudden, like overnight, I turned on the system and there is no juice to the track out of either 2000!  It is not a short circuit - I've unhooked them and hooked them up again on my isolated bench to just a piece of track - nothing coming out of the trackside outputs on the 2000's, but there is definitely power at the input side.

Anyone have any ideas?  Hope I didn't kill them.

But, if I did kill them (somehow) are there any DCC systems that also run analog locos?  I've seached and asked at a number of local train shops - no help.

I don't recall if the Command 2000 has a fuse but you might check that and replace if needed. The circuitry inside is pretty rudimentary so you might be able to diagnose any simple problems. The newer MRC Tech 6 unit is capable of running both DCC and DC so you might want to give it a look.

That's really odd that they would both die at the same time. Do you have any corssovers between the two mainlines? If so, crossing over between them would short the two units to each other which could cause problems.  All Digitrax systems are capable of running analog locos.
