MTH sound
Posted by mike33469 on Sunday, October 8, 2023 4:12 PM

I recently purchased a MTH steam locomotive, it runs great on my DCC (NEC) layout but no sound.  Is there something I need to do to get the sound to work? Or did I buy a defective engine?

I only have one MTH loco and run it occasionally. I have to get out the function chart ro refresh my memory as their functions are a little different than what I'm used to. F3 is a 'startup/shutdown' function. F6 toggles through master sound levels.

Hello All,

I use an NCE wireless ProCab system.

Have you tried Function 8 (Mute)?

This function will not only mute the sound but also "un-mute" (activate) the sound.

Hope this helps.

"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"

F8 in MTH's Proto3 decoders F8 is 'Smoke on-off'.

A decoder reset is to enter '55' in CV 55.

No, at least on their first and second generation P3's.  Only P3's after 2017-2018 AFAIK finally allowed you to customize keys because you could switch the loco to DCC mode.
