Touchscreen Turnout Control in October 2022 MR
Posted by nycmodel on Monday, October 3, 2022 1:31 PM

There was a great article about using a touchscreen LCD and an Arduino in the October 2022 MR. The article implies that the code for the project can be found at toptechboy.com. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate the code on this site. Does anyone have the exact link to the code or know where it may be found?

Thanks.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the "code" on the site refers to things like how to connect the LCD to the Arduino, not how to make it operate model-railroad equipment.

There are 'new' and 'old' tutorial lessons, accessed from the menu bar.  New tutorial 41, if I recall correctly, discusses connecting up the LCD.  (Lesson 48 discusses hexadecimal and at least indirectly shows how the 'magic' of setting bits as positional flags actually works).  If you continue to scroll down, you will come to old lesson 13 (about how to control a RGB LED with an Arduino, a boon to you signal builders), 16 which nominally involves controlling a servo with a pot but would be applicable to fine control of something functionally but not operationally bistate, like a non-sprung turnout, and 19 which is the older discussion of hooking up the LCD screen (I don't know if this version handles the touch digitizer functionality as well as the screen display)

Their search function is fundamentally worthless, and I was distressed, although amused at the irony, of encountering a modal advertising banner for "helloprivacy.com -- The World's First Privacy API"

It might be added that now that there's mention of the site in a national publication, some of their staff might work up a tutorial specifically for model-railroad control, put it up, and link it to Kalmbach as an advertorial opportunity.

Yeah, I believe you are correct about the "code" refered to in the sidebar. Yes, I have looked at some of the tutorials concerning the Arduino and touchscreen LCDs. Very informative. I am surprised that MR doesn't have a link to the code (they have done that before). A parts list and a connection schematic would have been nice but there is only so much room, especially for a specialized article on the Arduino. Thanks for responding.
