Thanks for all who replied and I did not find any other thread dealing with this specific subject.  I was able to get ahold of Digitrax and they helped me out.  I just don't understand why they don't make their documenation clearer.  Its like their tech people write these manuals, but don't have actual users read them to see what simple changes they could make to provide clarification.

For anyone who needs clarification on this subject setting the 3 digit base address will automatically use that address for the first switch connected to the DS74 and the DS74 then automatically assigns the next sequential number for each switch attached to the DS74 in the order that they are attached.  Thats all the had to say to make their documentation understandable.

So in my case I had 6 DS64s and 23 Tortoise switches already on the layout (switches were numbered 101-123), I then assigned a base address of 124 to the first DS74 and it assigned that number to the first attached switch and 125-127 for the other 3.  For the second DS74 I only attached one Tortoise switch and assigned it base number 128 and that is the same as the switch number.  So all my 28 switches now run from 101-128.

Hope that helps anyone else who may not be clear on this subject.

Thanks again

Have you visited the Digitrax-Users-at-groups.io site? You may be able to search read responses there but signing up is free, easy and painless.

I only have one DS64 but I have heard rumblings about getting a 74 to work with them.

Good Luck, Ed

Hello All,

You have previously posted this question to these forums.

Again, my suggestion is to contact Digitrax directly.

Hope this helps.

Configuring DS74 with currently installed DS64s
Posted by Coastie71 on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 12:55 PM

I'm having trouble understanding how to configure the DS74 (actually two DS74s) for use on my layout that I currently have 6 DS64s installed.  The Digitrax DS74 versus the 64 documentation is not as helpful as the older decoder doc on setting base address and switch numbers.  I have 28 Tortoise switch machines installed (just installed the last 5) and the first 23 switches are operating using the DS64s.  I easily set the base address for the DS64 to 001 (switches 101-104), 002 (switches 105-108), etc with the last DS64 006 (switches 121-123).  But I can't figure how to set base address for the DS74s so that they are sequential (follow the numbering I set for the 64s) or how I set the switches so they also are sequential (i.e., 124-127 for the first DS74 and 128 for the second DS74.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gary (Coastie71)

PS Couldn't believe I had to purchase another connector for use with setting up push button control (I have yet to install push buttons on any of the stationary decoders at this time as I'm just trying to get all my switches to operate with the Digitrax 602 throttle).
