How to wake up a decoder?
Posted by TrainsRMe1 on Saturday, April 16, 2022 7:24 PM

Happy Easter, Modelrailroaders

I have two locos that I haven't run in a while, and they are decoder equipped, but I'm having trouble getting them rollin', and I didn't keep a log,  I'm using the Digitrax zepher for power,  should I just reprogram my decoders in these loco's and start over?? Thank you guys for your input!!

Use the zephyr to read the address.

Depends on the decoder, a few types have lost programing after being put away for a long time but this is not typical.

Reset the decoder to factory settings, then try on address 03

Sometimes, purging the command station doesn't hurt either.

Are they sound decoders?  Many sound decoders have a start up and shutdown function, and on some of them if you shut them down they will not trespond to anything except for the start up function.

With a Zephyr it's easy (on the programming track) to read the two and four digit addresses. I'd check that, it could be reprogramming just the ID will make the engine alert again.
