wrench567Your throttle reads out locomotive speed? What DCC system are you using?
Hi Pete,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I use the USB port on the Digitrax DCS 52 to connect to DecoderPro. Then I use an Accutrak II Speedometer to measure the speed. I learned this from youtube. It took me a while to get familar with how it works and now it takes about 30min to one hour to do a speed match for a loco. The time really depends on the decoder the manufacturer uses. Athern Genesis and Walthers are easy as their speed table is quite linear. Bachmann and BLI are relatively hard. But I normally use the speed table from the same manufacturer as my starting point. That helps a lot.
I will try your approach next, as it does sound like a lot simpler... Thanks!

It's easy to drive yourself crazy trying to speed match locomotives. I really simplified it using min, max, medium CVs and just adding momentum to cut down the chucking and bucking. I also use 28 speed steps and very rarely go past speed step 12. This method works good enough to match locomotives of different makes and decoders.

Hi all,
I have been trying to do speed match for my Bachmann SC-44 locos. These locos are nicely made with great sound and lights. But when I tried to do the speed match, the speed table looks weird. I used DecoderPro to do the speed match and tried to match the speed to my throttle reading and the highest speed to 60MPH. So throttle reading of 30 should give 30MPH and 40 should give 40MPH, and so on. I was using the 28 step speed table.
To match the speed, the speed table is very nonlinear, particularly in the range between 40MPH and 50MPH. The 40MPH (or throttle reading of 40) corresponds to 11th step in the speed table and 50MPH corresponds to 14th step. Here is what I have between 10th step and 15th step:
10: 73
11: 82
12: 85
13: 88
14: 90
15: 97
So between 11 and 14, the setting is almost flat.
I tried to set two SC-44, and two ACS 64 electric Bachmann locos, the speed tables all have a plateau near 40 to 50MPH.
Does anyone have similar experience? Or did I do something wrong?
