cold steal I have a few that struggle to puff. So you managed to repair it yourself?

Yes. The hardest part was a clear plastic tube about 3/8'' long by maybe 1/4'' ID (these measurements are a good guess at this time). That tube swelled longer in length and I needed to slice off a section to get it back in to the location it was to be at. I think this tube is there to keep the oil in place. That tube goes from between the bottom of the stack to the top of the heater element.
EDIT: I looked and now have the size's of the clear tube I cut off. .042'' is the length of the piece I cut off, .359'' OD, .222''ID. These numbers may be the still swelled size or by now the shrunk back to normal size.
I kind of remember having the ''blower/fan'' out of the smoke box, still wired up and cleaning the unit off and then running the loco in place on rollers and watching it, the blower/fan start and stop, which would be blowing the smoke out of the stack in the ''puff/chuff'' mode.
IIRC, this could have been three or four years ago, maybe more.
JDawg I know there is a setting (CV) to create more smoke at idle and while moving, but is there a setting for the fan speed? I just want it to kick out more for each chuff. Maybe this is an impossible ask. Also, I'm liew of some strong opinions swirling about the forum, I will leave the folowing message. I do not want to hear about the side effects of using the smoke generator. Yes I know it will leave an oily reside. Yes I know it looks a bit toy like but I like it every now and again. Got it? Thank you. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ed for that BLI support.
I can say that I had a BLI stop with the chuff/smoke cycle and needed to open her up and found that the fan/motor was gunked up stuck and not turning. Cleaned it up and it chuffs smoke like it should now. It is not something I'd want to do often. The smoke just came out of the stack but with no chuff/force behind it. So I figured the oil heater/element was working but no fan blowing.
gmpullman JDawg but is there a setting for the fan speed? Yes, beginning at page 192 Here: https://www.broadway-limited.com/support/manuals/techSteam1.00.pdf Broadway's fan does vary with each "chuff" or turns of the reed switch magnet. The blower is wired through the circuitry of the chuff sensor. Regards, Ed
