Thanks for your reply! I bought the unit new, so I'm going to try and send it back to get a replacement unit. Again, thank you!
TothEven when I disconnect the power wires coming from the back of the ICU to any and all track, and I press the button on the remote the light on the handheld remote flashes from red to green for a split second, and the green light on the ICU still rapidly flashes green saying there is a short circuit.
Sounds like a bad control unit. Was it purchased new? If so I'd be sending it back. If it was used, it'd depend on where you got it and how it was represented, but you may have to send it to ESU to get fixed.
Hi Everyone - I was looking for some help/troubleshooting tips.
I should preface this by saying this is my first layout, and so I have no experience with wiring, or DCC, etc. I'm simply trying to teach myself everything as I progress through the different stages of layout construction.
Now, I recently purchased an ESU CabControl command station to power the track (comes with a 7Amp power supply, command unit, and wireless remote). I was successfully going through the setup process - powering on the unit and connecting the wireless throttle to the Integrated Command Unit [ICU] - until I reached the point where I press the button to supply power to the track.
Now, the light on the handheld remote is supposed to go from solid red to solid green. However, it simply flashes green for a second and then stays red (indicating power is not going to the track). At the same time, the light on the Integrated Command Unit goes from slowly blinking green (indicating power is not being supplied to the track) to rapidly flashing green (which, an internet search tells me, indicates a short circuit).
However, not wanting to get too far ahead of myself, I only soldered feeder wire (22 AWG) to two separate pieces of track on the layout and connected those soldered feeder wires to my BUS wire (12 AWG) using suitcase connectors. However, even when I separate those pieces of track from the rest of the layout and try to supply power the green light on the ICU rapidly flashes green - indicating a short.
I even tried connecting the two power wires coming from the back of the ICU to a piece of Atlas terminal track and the unit still fails to supply power to that piece of track and the green light flashes rapidly (again, a short, so says the internet) after I press the button on the wireless remote.
Even when I disconnect the power wires coming from the back of the ICU to any and all track, and I press the button on the remote the light on the handheld remote flashes from red to green for a split second, and the green light on the ICU still rapidly flashes green saying there is a short circuit.
An internet search/the manual says that I can try increasing the voltage on the power supply slightly (i.e. - increasing it slightly from the suggested HO scale voltage) to stop the flashing green light. However, that too has not solved the issue.
Having little to no experience I'm looking for any suggestions/tips.
I've registered on the ESU website to get access to their forum to ask this question/seek help, but it says it might take a few days so I was hoping those here might have encountered this issue - if they have ever dealt with the ESU CabControl system.
Thanks in advance for any help and tips!
