Just Plug System
Posted by mreagant on Friday, September 17, 2021 11:36 AM

I need some clarification on the WS Just Plug System. I want to add a Built and Ready item to my layout that comes with Just Plug which I don't need or want since I don't have any other things on the layout that have lights. Question is if it can be lighted without spending money for a hub or other power supply. Track? Buss wire? Unused wall wart from an old cell phone system?

Thanks.

Sure can.  I have several building lit by regular LED's that I wired in.  When I got one of the just plug vehicles, I just wired it into that circuit.  You will need to experiment a bit to see what size resistor you need/want for the desired output level.  Start with a fair amount of resistance, and if that's not bright enough for you, try the next smaller and so on.  I'm guessing that wall wart you have would be a perfect power source for it.

I use old adapters, I keep'em all when throwing out old electronics.

I use this LED wizard to help figure out the power situation.

I ordered a bunch of these from China for about $2.00ea to control the voltage, so far only one has ever failed.

Just a word of caution here...

If you install one building with lights, you'll probably want to add lights to more. There's just something magical about lighting up your layout.
