9 pin nce decoder
Posted by santafejeff on Friday, June 4, 2021 3:50 PM

I have several 9 pin nce d13j decoders that I cant seem to figure out how to get ditch lights to flash on. I have a few Walthers mainline and other locos that take this decoder as a direct plug in. Meaning, I dont need to wire harness that it came with. The dc board has soundtraxx on it with some other options on it, like lnum, rnum p7?, and mars tabs. Mars I can figure is a mars light output and the lnum and rnum Im guessing are for number boards but why one for each side and I have no clue what p7 is. This is the factory dc board from the Walthers loco as far as I know but a couple of my other mainline locos take a 21pin. Its quite baffling to say the least. George at soundtraxx is gone for the next few days so I am waiting on his reply as well.

For the record, this locos ditch lights were wired directly to the normal headlight tabs on the board, in order to operate them independently, I took one lead from each one and tried to put it on different wire locations, i.e., the green wire location and the violet wire location per the instructions. However, even though the the lights lit up they acted very erratic. I switched one from the violet to the yellow and got the same result and occasionally the loco would take off like a bat out of hell regardless of where I had the ditch light leads.

With all that said, I took out the entire board and put in a ds-sr decoder from nce and wired the ditch lights to output 3 and 4 respectively. They work just fine, loco runs fabulous and creeps along in step 1. All is well now.

Can someone telk me how to get the 9pin decoder to do what it says it can do. There are no seperate outputs on the 9pin according to nce so, how do you all do it?

Thanks for any help

Never mind. I got it.

Now if I can just figure out why one of my d13j decoders gets hot and wont program even though its new.

Maybe just a bad decoder?
