What is the proper name for a double throw double pole non latching switch that returns to center off when released?

If you want momentary in both directions it would be DPDT Momentary-Off-Momentary.

In technical specs, like you would see in an electronic supplier catalog, it would be:

(ON)-OFF-(ON)

An ordinary DPDT center off toggle (not momentary) would be:

ON-OFF-ON

And a DPDT non-momentary toggle that is not center off (liek the reverse switch on a DC power pack) would be:

ON-ON

Thos designations just ferfer to the number of throws and momentary/not momentary, and center off/no center off and actually apply to any number of poles, so the DPDT part needs to be stated as well.

For example, the SPDT mometary buttons like the Atlas turnout controls are SPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON)

There are all kinds of technical terms that could make the description crazy.

If you just want to search the internet to find one, enter this into the search box:

"DPDT momentary center off"

That should find what you need.

Miniatronics is my favorite source for toggle switches. They sell three different styles of DPDT, referred to this way:

MINI TOGGLE SWITCH-DPDT

MINI TOGGLE SWITCH-CTR OFF-DPDT

MINI TOGGLE -CTR OFF-MOM SPRING -DPDT

No, I'm sorry, the correct Jeopardy answer was 'geomagnetic reversal'.

This thread derailed.

Confused

I hope "ndbprr" got his answer and we were somewhat helpful.
