Soundtraxx Tsunami has the correct GE Cummins diesel sound, I will go that way. The difference in sound between a Cat and Cummins is very noticeable.
My plan on the lighting is to glue those small surface mount LEDs to the back of the lights and do away with the any light pipe.
Take some pictures of your work. If I rremember correctly, the factory DCC board has SM Led's that shine upward into light pipes

doublereefedDave, I searched again... all I can find is the 44 Tonner Caterpillar sound profile, I can't find either 45 Tonner or 150 HP Cummins...
Hi again,
I owe you a big apology for making the assumption that the 44 tonners and the 45 tonners would have used the same motors. Clearly I was wrong. I should have kept my mouth shut! Thank goodness that Mark has stepped in to extract both of my feet from my mouth!
Sorry.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Here are the selections for Cummins on the ESU site ....
http://projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/search?q=cummins
While none of them are specifically for the 45 tonner, the two at the bottom of the page are twin Cummins powered. You can listen to the V4 file (same as V5 file) second from the bottom. You would have to do some remapping as these files are mapped to European standards.
Mark.

Hi doublereefed,
If I can ask, why are you suggesting that the Cummins diesels would not be the correct sound? Did GE use other engines? I don't know if they did or not, but I would be inclined to believe that the engine choices made by the decoder manufacturers are appropriate for the model.
I have a couple of the ESU 45 tonner decoders installed and they sound just great to me. I will admit that I might not have the most discerning ear because I can't tell if I am hearing one motor or two, but I personally believe that the two engines would never have been so far out of sync that the discrepancy would be noticable. If they were, they would probably have shaken the locomotives to pieces.
I should probably call Tony's Trains, but it's 10PM so I'll ask all of you!
I am going to add a new decoder and sound to a Bachmann GE 45 Tonner. The Soundtraxx TSU 1100 will work as will the smaller ESU decoder. However, how do I get the correct sound? The 45 Tonner had two 150 hp Cummins diesel engines driving two generators. I don't see "150 HP Cummins" listed as details on either of those websites.
