If I want to put the same programming in more than one decoder can I do more than one at the same time on a programming track? If so how many can be done at the same time?
I think it can be done since there are warnings about accidently programming your entire roster, but I wonder if it is reliable.

I don't know if anyone has tried to see what the limit is - the danger is if more locos are on the program track than there is power to program, they might ALL get corrupted beyond recovery.
However, there is another option - set them all to the same address, and then use programming on the main. Select the shared address, program all the CVs you want to be identical, then move each loco to the program track and set a unique address. On the main, you can likely do a dozen or more at the same time, because you are using the full power of the system.

I've done two at once using a SproggII and didn't notice any issues. I didn't plan to try any more than that. I had an A-B-B-A set of Fs and did one pair at a time.
With DecoderPro I simply click "Write all sheets" then go refill my beverage. By the time I get back they're all done.

About nine years ago I did a DZ125 in a Mantua 0-6-0 and a SoundTraxx Micro in a tender. Made the 0-6-0 into 2-6-0 oil fired. The Micro and a resistor across motor leads. Changed a couple CV's so resistor would no get hot. No bEMF though so sounds different but it worked.
Both done at different times and matched them up. Loco first.

Another option with Decoder Pro is to get one decoder set up the way you want it, save the settings in a Decoder Pro entry, and then put the other engines on the programming track and hit "write all CVs" for each engine...assuming you're using the same decoder in each engine. If you're not running the engines as a set all using the same ID, you can change the ID of each unit after programming the CVs.

I am using an NCE Power Cab with a 3' section of flex for the programming track. Mainly doing ESU sound decoders right now but may be doing other brands. I have a LokProgrammer so the question could apply to using it to program multiple decoders at once. Downloading the same sound file to more than one decoder at a time is another question that comes to mind.

I personally wouldn't risk trying to write a new sound project to more than one locomotive (decoder) at a time. Why risk scrambling the firmware? I have to believe there is error checking involved in a complete rewrite. How would the software know which decoder had the error?
It takes 25-30 minutes for my LokProgrammer to rewrite a sound project. I have other things I can be doing while the write process takes place then I either place the next engine to be written on the test track and continue or move on to something else.
