Good soldering should be seen as an an aquired art not a necessary evil. Practice on scrap material until uou get a smooth solder flow. Nothing less.
There are photos online with a Google search and You Tube videos. Proper soldering pencils or soldering stations and electrical solder. Clean wire.
Google should be your Best Friend. Solves most of my problems.
I use shrink tube also. Someimes from a hardware store in town.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
FRRYKidI am lousy at soldering, hence the reason for the shrink tubing
Hi FRRYKid,
If you want us to teach you how to solder, just ask. Once you have the right tools and the right materials you can get quite good at it with a little practise.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Thank you. I had found some wire that is 30 awg but I just wanted to be sure I made the right guess.
Shrink tubing is not a band-aid for lousy soldering.
Mark.

Diameter of the solid wire leader is .015'' or roughly a #78 drill size, or stranded wire size #30.
The solid bare leads look to be 1.56'' long.
I'm good a soldering and I still use shrink tube.
Got yet another one for my Forum friends: What is the diameter of the wires that cone out of circuitron's Opto-Sensors? I am trying to order wire and shrink tubing to fit and I want to get compatible sizes. (I am lousy at soldering, hence the reason for the shrink tubing) Thank you in advance for any assistance that can be provided.
