This really sounds like a mechanical issue to me and not a decoder issue.
Open it up and clean all the internal contacts for the wheels. While its open clean out all the old lub and start fresh.

mkepler954 Thanks- I'll give it a try.

I hope you do not have the EZ Command DCC system. It cannot reset a decoder.
If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
So many complaints about the decoder in Bachmann diesels that NCE developed the BACH-DSL decoder. Comes with instructions. You can see them online.

I am guessing the original decoder.
The onboard decoder is the EZ Command, a very basic decoder many replace.
The specs are at the Bachmann site.
You might try a decoder reset but that is a guess. CV8 enter 8. Recycle track power. After a few seconds the headlight should flash sixteen times and the loco run on adress 3 but you might know that allready.
I have a 15 year old (?) Bachmann EMD GP-35 DCC Diesel which doesn't move at startup. When I give it a gentle push, it runs but is jerky for a few seconds and is fine thereafter. The wheels and track have been cleaned. Lubrication is fine. What would cause this?
