Hello,

Perhaps this?

Märklín used unconventional function mapping in their original decoder. I do not know if these can be re-mapped or not. The manual states that it can be done using the 60212 Central Station.

Good Luck, Ed

Thanks for the reply Ed, much appreciated and I'll see what can be done with an NCE controller.

Regards

Randy, very many thanks for the reply and information.

I'm not quite ready to look at the loco but you've given me something to get my teeth into and will try to change the variables using my NCE controller.

You are correct in assuming that I want the whistle to play a single blast only.
Regards

Doug

Manual is here:

http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/former-products/

All the functions can be moved around, although not completely like newer Loksounds. But it also is a lot easier, there is just one CV per function key to change.

Default according to the instructions available on the Trix web site is F1 for smoke, F2 for mute, F3 for whistle, and the bell is on F7.

You'll have to check the existing values - CV36 is F2 and CV37 is F3, but F2 can only control sound slots 1 and 2, F3 can control sound slots 1-4, so if the whistle sound is in slot 3 or 4, there is no way to map it to F2.

It's on F3 by default, which is why it plays the way it does. You can I believe set the F3 function on the PowerCab to momentary, and make F2 latching, which is of course opposite any other decoder so you'd have to switch back to work with other sound decoders, but that would solve the whistle problem. As long as it's currently slot 1 or 2, then the CV change will make the decoder use F2 instead of F3, and you'll also have to map what's currently on F2 to F3 or some other function key.

Loksound 3.5 and up have an actual playable whistle, if enabled on the cab, with NCE you hold the whistle button and scroll the thumbwheel. The Loksound v2 is ancient and does not do this. But I think you just mean momentary so that it sounds only as long as you hold the button and stops when you let go.

I don't see a V2 manual online.

What do the bell and light buttons do?

If there is no help in this forum, there is a Loksound in groups.io.  There is also an ESU group, which is much less active.

Trix Mikado ESU Loksound V2 decoder steam whistle
Posted by Canadoug on Friday, April 3, 2020 5:22 AM

Hi everyone!
I have a TRIX Mikado. with ESU Loksound V2 decoder fitted which I operate with an NCE PowerCab, a brilliant model.
Could anyone advise if it is possible to change the horn/whistle sound from whoohooho-whoohoohoo   to a playable single blast?
Also it would be very useful if the named bell and light buttons on the PowerCab could be made to correspond to the actual sounds on this decoder.
Thanks.
Doug
