Welcome back to the forums.

I have six Walther's switches on my layout.  I have not noticed any buzzing, but one did make noise when I installed it with the motion too restricted.  I have not fixed it yet, but will have to move the machine slightly to get the motion more in line with the turnout.

The Walthers 942-102 appears to function using a SG90 servo.  I’m experimenting using the SG90 servos for my turnout switch machines.  The servos will buzz when they have pressure against the moving actuator arm.

When that happens the more pressure against the actuator the more current the servo draws.  The servo with no pressure on the actuator or moving arm or idle current draw is 13ma at 5 volts, with pressure against the moving arm the servo tries to hold the selected position.  The more pressure on the moving arm the more current it draws making it buzz.

The servos can draw well over 100ma under load and a constant current over 30ma will make them over heat quickly.  I have found that the position control must keep the arm very close to idle to prevent buzz and high current draw.

I have limited experience with the Walthers Layout Control System, but the few I have seen absolutely DO NOT buzz.

.

I would return them to Walthers.

Welcome to your first post after 9 years.  I'm giving your post a bump so it gets some visibility.  No idea why servos would buzz unless they are powered by DCC.

Walthers Switch Machines
Posted by FrankM89 on Monday, February 17, 2020 12:30 PM

I am just getting back into the hobby and am building an HO shelf layout. I am using NCE DCC Power Pro - I have a few Walthers horizontal switch machines that function fine with power distribution. They are controled by the LED push buttons not by DCC Addresses - Some of the switches make intermitant buzzing noises from the servo - others do not - are the buzzing switch machines faulty or am I somehow causing this? Thanks for any help.
