If its a Tsunami 1 check CV66 and CV95 which is forward trim and reverse trim. If one is way off that would it to go much slower in one direction than the other. For inistance if forward 66 is set to 155 and reverse 95 is set to 60 or lower reverse is gonna be a lot slower. But to me it sounds like something is binding.
Turn the sound off F8 and listen for something rubbing.

I would make sure it runs well in DC to rule out the possibility of a mechanical problem.

woodone Have you tried doing a decoder re-set? CV 8 SET TO,8 then remove power for a few seconds- and see what happens.

FergmiesterEven did a factory reset.
Strange behavior. It sounds like the decoder was bought separately from the loco. Yet you replaced the loco gears? Did the loco run OK prior?

having an issue with a decoder I just got second hand. It’s a Tsunami built for an Athearn GP9. I have a Life Like Proto GP 9 that I just did some filing to be able to put the Tsunami into it. It actually fits very well. Problem is the engine now gallops in one direction and snails along in the other direction, the throttle position has no effect in the direction it bolts and as I said I put in the other direction and it gets going at maybe a 3-5 mph speed and nothing more. The motor an mechanism is good, I even changed out the gears. Even did a factory reset. still can’t get the decoder to work properly. I haven’t hooked up the sound or lights yet. Any thoughts?
