Is only one wire broken off? In that case, take a meter set of ohms or continuity to see which wire goes to which part of the plug. Once you've figured that out, cut off the remaining wires and attach to a new 3.5mm plug. Done.

Trying to repair a flashing signal for a Lionel 6-12052 FasTrack Grade Crossing since replacements are not available. It uses (I think) a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to plug into the base. One of the wires inside the jack has broken and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the jack apart so I can repair it. Usually they just unscrew form the base but this does not appear to be the case here. Anyone have any experience with this?
