Hi Randy,
An absolutely excellent point. So obvious that I am embarrassed not to have thought of it myself.
A sincere “thank you.”

If it's a simple wye, where at leas one of the tails is not used as a regular path for the train, and turnouts are controlled with machines that have contacts, such as a Tortoise, there is no need for any sort of manual toggle or autoreverser, the switch machine contacts can be used in place of the toggle, and polarity will change as needed when the turnout is lined to move the train through. There will be no delays or lag or power cut because the train has to be stopped before running through the turnout anyway.

Thanks for reminding me: I'm using DCC. -m
search for cs.trains.com wye toggle switch

Is this DCC or DC?
Personally, I find that in DCC, an autoreverser is well worth the small investment. You can, though, use a toggle switch to either DC or DCC.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I thought I had read about wiring a reversing wye, using a toggle switch, in this forum. Can someone point me to that thread, please?
Thanks,
