Help needed with new NCE Power Cab set up
Posted by gondy529 on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 7:50 AM

Recently purchased NCE PowerCab to replace aging MRC Explorer system. The installation went fine, but only two of my DCC N scale locos run. Reinstalled  system three times to insure wiring is correct. Red LCD is on. Tried entering "3" address as well as the loco number, but no movement. The locos headlight is on. Tried setting up locos on both main track as well as program, but still nothing.

Are you saying 2 locos run normally but others do not?  How many others?  Did they run on your old system?

Reinstalled system three times to insure wiring is correct.

There are only 4 wires and one of those is the power supply, it can only go one place.  There are two track wires the other is the flat cable (don't use the coiled cable) going to the controller.  What did you reinstall?

The loco address should be the same as it was on your old system.  There may be some differences in how MRC and NCE handles short addresses, but if the loco was programmed to be 1234 on the MRC, it's not going to respond to address 3.

When you "set up" the locos on the programming track, does it find the decoder?

Since you say two locos run, you must have the Power Cab set up correctly.

Not sure what you mean by "setting up".

Just do a decoder reset using the program track option for any other loco.

I have the Power Cab and that is what I did if a loco only had lights and would not respond.
