Thanks Rich.

My first thought was to do the electrician thing and let them figure it out but then I read that post where the electrician ran the wrong circuits and may have used the wrong breakers so I thought I would ask here.

I devote a 15 amp circuit to my layout, 25' x 42'.

All my basement LED down lighting is separated into two 15 amp circuits, about 25 to 30 down light fixtures per circuit.

As for your power tools, especially the table saw, you would be well advised to maintain a separate 15 amp or even 20 amp circuit for those tools.

With absolutely no intention of being glib, I would advise that you consult with an electrician/electrical contractor who knows what he is doing.

Layout and Workshop Power needs
Posted by gary233 on Thursday, February 21, 2019 7:29 AM

I just read another post about a fellow model railroader having circuit breaker problems. I did not have any problems with my last layout so until now I hadn’t given it any thought. Perhaps someone here can give me some guidance. Here is what I’ll need to power.

Layout Room: 4 LED Ceiling Lights on separate switch

Workshop: 1 LED Ceiling light and 2 quad outlets for computer, work light, dremel drill press and soldering iron.

Layout: NCE PH Pro w/radio, BLI Water tower, BLI Thunder and Lightning, 10-15 buildings with lights, Walthers 110’ turntable, 21 Tortoise swic machines (no more than 2 at any one time), BLI Rolling thunder and Subwoofer, LED strip lights behind valence around layout (about 60 ft double row white and 30 ft blue) each 16’ length with a dimmable power supply.  all the accessories have power supplies. Miscellaneous LED’s and switches for control panels.

Control of layout power will be on one switch.

During construction I will be using a table saw, skill saw drill, sander and jig saw. One at a time.

I have no idea how to determine how many or what AMP circuits I need.

Suggestions?
