LokSound Select decoder
Posted by jpsika08 on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 12:49 PM

Is it possible to install a LokSound Select decoder in a BLI Locomotive? I even tried searching BLI website in the manuals and can't if these engines bring the 8 pins connector to install the LokSound decoder.

Thank you.

The BLI Blueline Diesel Operators Manual shows an 8 pin connector.  Are you installing DCC in a DC loco or are you replacing a DCC decoder?

Hi,

I've replaced the BLI decoder in several steam and diesels from Broadway Limited.

All their internal wiring is black or gray insulation so you have to "ring-out" the wiring scheme. I've done QSI and Paragon 2 decoders this way. It is pretty straightforward once you sort things out.

Here's an F7 A unit, for instance:

Don't forget a resistor for the headlight since the light output voltage is 12-13 volts on a Loksound decoder and the Paragon decoder has the resistor on the board.

Here's a recent RS-15 I converted:

And if you're looking at steam this is pretty much what you'll find in the tender:

Hope that helps,

Do you have a particular BLI engine in mind for your conversion?

Good Luck, Ed

Hi, I haven't still purchased the loco as I don't want to do it before being sure I can switch decoder. The idea is to remove the Paragon decoder and replace it with a DCC LokSound Select decoder.

Thank you very much for your detailed schemes and explanation Ed. The Loco I'm interested in purchasing as the BLI EMD SW1500.
