Peco
Jeffry:
If you are using PECO turnouts and their under the table switch machines you will need a capacitor discharge unit, to provide enough oomph to snap two or more turnouts.
You can buy these many places. One brand is called "the snapper", I had one made 15 years ago my an electronics tech, no brand name.

i believe only one matrix is needed. It shouldn't matter if the switch machines are on different ends if the yard. presumably just one switch per yard track
what type of switch machines?

Maybe that's true, maybe it's not, but my response will make it rise to the top. We have people that can answer that question. I will not muddy the waters with my guess.

Given: A five-track staging yard with a simple ladder at each end. Because it's a staging yard, I want each ladder to align to the same track on each end at all times. In other words, I don't need to provide for independent switching at each end. I plan to control the turnouts with a diode route matrix and push buttons.
Question: Do I need a separate matrix for each ladder or can I cross-connect each turnout with its corresponding partner on the other ladder?
I don't think I should combine them in a single matrix, but maybe I'm wrong. It seems that would get big and complex quickly, but I have limited experience here.
