I set up a 30 YO- HO train for my 4 YO Grandson. Found a really neat Steam engine, (DCC) Was running it w/ a DC controller. Controler died. Will this be an issue?
Unless the voltage spiked quite a bit when the controller died, the engine should be alright.
Did the engine let out any magic smoke?
No Smoke, Luckily no ozone smell. Evidently the transformer died. Switched it out. Engine is alive again.
I just wonder if the mixture of DC Transformer/ DCC engine will create further thing going Ka-Putt.

What did you get for a locomotive? Some may have a "dual mode" decoder, you can run in DC or DCC, but you have to set that way, one or the other.

The controller died? Meanign the DC power pack? Running a loco with DCC did not cause that. If it was one liek this one shown here:

good riddance, be glad it died and didn't burn down your house. Those style are and were always absolute junk. Lionel provided one liek that with the G scale THomas set I got my son when he was 3. The next day, it melted the carpet under it. Luckily I still had my good MRC DC power pack and was able to keep the fun going by using that instead.
There hasnt been a DCC decoder that didnt work on DC sold in years. Though it is possible to configre them on DCC to not run on DC - but that wouldn;t break the controller, it would just not move.

Bachmann has a decent power pack on Amazon. Free shipping, maybe two day with Prime. I have seen it at a trasin show running a HO layout all day.
Amazon also has a MRC but not Prime.
Some here could suggest an online train company that delivers fast. There are some.

Thanks fellas. I have a controller that is working for now. I am exploring DCC controllers. Old Dogs must learn new. Lots of info to absorb and screen out. Just made a couple of connections at a show.
I know what you mean. I bought an NCE Power Cab sometime ago. I run maybe three HO sound locos at home just fine.
Hitting 78 soon. Run locos very little anymore.
Dancing with the ladies a lot more fun now now that my Pacemaker is keeping my heart going just fine.
Riding local the rail trails in good weather on my bicycle is cool also.
