The only real difference is the sound file loaded on the decoder, the features generally matched. There is a lag between a new loco coming out and someone creating a decoder definition file for it in JMRI.

heisler06,

Thank you. I went to the site and the RTR SD-50 is not listed. I checked the Genesis part of the site and an SD-50 wasn't listed either. I used the SD-45 option on JMRI to program it. I will run it like that until the SD-50 version is published. Thanks again.

According to the Atheran website these come with the Econami decoder.  The related Soundtraxx link for these is

Athearn RTR DCC / Sound locomotive HO
Posted by willy6 on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 1:27 PM

I got an Athearn DCC / Sound locomotive for Christmas. It is an SD-50. I went on JMRI to program it and JMRI read it and gave options. None were for an SD-50. The other options were ECO-100, ECO-200, 21PNEM, ECOPNP and ECO-400. The paperwork that came with it shows functions up to F28. I hope someone knows, if not, I will assume I will have to contact Athearn, any recommendations will be appreciated.
