Thanks to all for your suggestions! I've now got some concrete ideas to try!

Regards, Greg

The Tsunami isn't nearly as configurable as the Loksound is. When configuring one of each to play nice with each other, it's usually the Loksound that gets adjusted to compensate for the the other decoder's inadequacies.

As an interested Loksound guy, the suggestions are all to change the Loksound.

Does that mean the Tsunami cannot be modified to achieve the OP's goals or is changing the loksound, the obviously better way to achieve that?

Set the following CVs in this order on your Loksound decoder ....

CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2

----------------------

CV387 =  32

This will allow F8 to function correctly with the Tsunami. The downside is that the Loksound decoder will start immediately upon seeing track power.

Another option would be to re-map the engine start feature of the Loksound decoder to a function other than F8. That way, your loksound engine can retain its normally sound off feature until called upon.

This can be done with the Loksound select or V4 decoders and using JMRI. On the Function Map pane switch F8 to Not F8. To do that you have to change the F8 setting from On to Off.

Maybe I've missed something pretty basic, but I can't figure this one out.

  1. SD40-2 with a Loksound sound decoder (no sound until F8 is pressed)
  2. GP40-2 with a Tsunami sound decoder (no sound until throttle is advanced)
  3. Consist the 2 units together
  4. Press F8 to start the Loksound-equipped SD40-2
  5. Turn the throttle up.  GP40-2 with Tsunami is quiet because that F8 press in step 4 muted the Tsunami.
  6. If you press F8, now the Tsunami sound works and the Loksound loco shuts (sound) down

This is a vicious circle.  Is there any way to get these two different sound decoders to be on the same "sound on" cycle when consisted?  Oh, and I'm not interested in lifting the loco with the LokSound off the track until the Tsunami starts!  Wink
