Just because the blue power light comes on and the motor drive works does not mean the the audio amp is good.

WJSTIX, I don't think so.  The decoder blue light comes on and the motor runs beautifully, both forward and reverse, slow and fast.  It would not work at all if I had fried it.

My guess would be that when soldering the speaker wires to the decoder you accidently overheated the decoder. It's happened to me, it seems like Soundtraxx decoders are especially vulnerable to this.

Noise is only when I turn the power on.  No other sounds are audible.  It's almost like interference from outside somewhere, but it's not.  I'll check with Soundtraxx and see if I can get a new decoder.  Should'nt have these issues with Soundtraxx as I have found them very reliable.  But s--- happens.

Is the screeching sound there whether the sound is turned on or off ? If when on, do the other sounds play as expected ? Does the screeching change pitch under any circumstances (driving / playing other sounds) ?

Mark.

Check with SoundTraxx to determine if the speaker used is capable with the Econami ECO-PNP amplifier.

You're the second person with an Econami problem this week.  Afrosteam couldn't get any sound at all.

I don't know if the other "stuff" on the factory circuit board could cause this.  Maybe the more knowledgeable would want to know what loco you have installed this in.

You said you tried two other speakers that are good and same thing. I am assuiming a continous screech.

That tells me it is the decoder sound part. Different part of the decoder.

Screeching speaker sound

OK guys, a new problem.  I just installed a new Econami ECO-PNP decoder for diesel.  All is great except for the sound.  The speaker makes a very high pitched "screeching" sound (best way to describe it).  I thought it was the speaker, and tried two others that I know are still good.  Same thing.  Please don't tell me it's the decoder...it's brand new and runs smooth.  FYI...the decoder comes with an S+ and S- that you simply solder your two speaker wires to.  There is a current keeper plug for an optional CK, but I'm not using one and can't see that being the problem.  Your thoughts??

Thanks.  JRP
