Dumb question of the year
Posted by willy6 on Sunday, September 23, 2018 3:18 PM

As an admitted novice of DCC, here is my question. I use JMRI and Digitrax PR3 to program my loco's. I got JMRI about 50% figured out, today I was trying to program my Intermountain locomotive ditch lights to work. I have a programming track off layout, so after each change, I take to layout and try it out. My question is, can I plug in my DT400 into my PR3 and test my changes on the program track?

Being old is when you didn't loose it, it's that you just can't remember where you put it.

Nope, to test it you have to put the loco on the main track and use your throttle with the system there. The PR3 can;t source enough power to run a loco.

A Sprogg 2 will interface with JMRI and allow you to open the JMRI throttle to immediately test programming changes.

I find it very useful for an integrated DCC programming and test track.

Hope that helps, Ed
