If they measure 1.5mm between pins they most likely are ZH connectors.

The JST ZH series are common speaker connectors.

I buy them off eBay.

I use them on every locomotive equipped with speakers.

The plastic body of that plug on the board can be pried off leaving the two pins attached to the board. I then just solder the wires to those two pins.

Anyone know the exact type/series of JST connector that Bowser uses for their speakers?

I've gutted many locomotives and also lots of computer devices and have gathered quite a collection of different plugs just to keep on hand for situations like yours. It seems to me that JST (Japan Solderless Treminal) is becoming a term used for any small PCB connector. I can check later but I believe it is a 2.54mm pitch. JST company makes a large variety of plugs and connectors.

I see that Bowser has a part number for the plug, shown at the top-right of this page:

http://www.bowser-trains.com/history/pschassis.html

#691-1292
Plug with wire. Fits Bowser, Atlas, Intermountain and Fox Valley main circuit boards.

They also show a pig-tail included with their sound retrofit kits. Maybe give Bowser a call or email and see if you can buy some from them?

I see MB Klein has stocked them in the past —

https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/bowser-1292-plug-with-two-wires-for-speakers/

but are presently out.

Micromark also lists a similar plug/socket but I can't say for sure they're identical.

Hope that helps,

Good Luck, Ed

JST connector type for Bowser speaker?
Posted by Autonerd on Sunday, September 2, 2018 4:56 PM

Hi all -- Trying to find the right connector to add a speaker to a DCC-ready Bowser F7 w/ a 21-pin socket. Bowser says "JST connector" but there are about a billion, and the catalog is massive. Anyone know the exact type/series of JST connector that Bowser uses for their speakers?

Thanks

Aaron
