Problem with Con-Cor MUmP54
Posted by DSteckler on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 10:08 AM

Decided to run it on the layout.  Light comes on but it won't run.  No motor hum, no nothing.  The decoder is a Digitrax DZ 143.  I reset CV 8 to 8 to reset the decoder but still no joy; lights are on but neither forward nor backward running.

Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to resolve it?

Sounds kaput if a reset doesn't solve the problem.  Did it ever run?

L just installed 3 of those decoders into some brass steamers. Two of the three performed better than I ever dreamed right from the get go. The third - not so. Same issue - could not reset, could not get it to go. This is what I did: Removed the motor and decoder from the enginebut left the orange and grey wires soldered to the brushes. I then attached test leads to the rails of my programming track and to the red and black wires of the decoder - set cv 8 to 8. Worked like a charm, so I programmed it free of the engine and reinstalled it. Runs great. Obviously, I had something interfering with the performance that I missed on the first install. Doing the whole thing again just as a totally new installation allowed me to be sure I had it right. This will also tell  you if the decoder is kaput. Good luck.

Yes, it did.  I last ran it a few months ago with no problem.

I'm going to hook it up to JMRI and reset through that, then see if it runs.

That took care o fthe problem.  Changed a few of the decoder settings and it ran again.  Darned if I know how they were changed while the motor sat on the shelf!
