I bought a Rivarossi U28C with a LokSound Select decoder. I'm using a Roco DCC controller which only has f0-f4 so I can't get the engine sounds to start from the remote. On my Intermountain ES44AC I inverted F8 so the engine starts on track power.
However, I've had no luck with the U28C. I've found 3 different procedures to invert F8 (in the online full Loksound manual, the Rivarossi branded paper instructions, and another on some forum).
The working sequence with the Intermountain loco is cv32=2, cv403=32, cv13=2. Another doc mentions setting cv419 instead of 403, and a forum post said to set it to 16 instead of 32. Have tried it all, no go.
All those do is change the color of the center light!
I sent messages to Rivarossi and ESU but no reponse.
Any ideas?
This is the u28c FYI:

CV13 has no bearing here, that is for analog operation.
The problem is figuring out which line int eh function mapping table is used for CV8 mapping. That's dependent on the sound project. 403 and 419 are the proper CVs (after setting CV32=2 for indexing) but it also could be 387, 371, 355, or maybe 435 or 451.
32 is the value you want - 32 means F8 is off. 16 means F8 is on, which is what it should be currently set to. Brute force, check each CV from 259 to 499, in increments of 16 ( so 259, 275, 291, etc.) and see which one is set to 16. If it's 16, make it 32. Unless you have some other way to read the decoder, such as JMRI and a suitable interface, or a Lokprogrammer.

This "should" work. Set the following in this order ....
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2
----------------------
CV435 = 32
