Kato N scale sd 40-2 ditch lights

Maybe take the shell off, and see how they powered.  I know nothing about Kato N scale, but their HO scale locos, have two LEDs on the board, forward and reverse, and light pipes to the headlight and ditch lights, same with the rear light.

I've got a few of the Kato N scale SD 40-2's but the ditch lights are quite weak compared to the headlights. Anyone else got this problem? Have you fixed it?
