Folks, can some explain to me what DCC-Master(R) means? I ran into this on the Walthers site and can't seem to get an answer on it. I just now getting back into railroading and want to run my N scale on DCC as well my HO later. Thanks.

Well if you want to run N scale, then you shouldn't worry about it, since Walthers does not make any products for N scalers -- at least not intentionally Stick out tongue

I see the Walthers search is on the ball too. It completely missed the N scale ones like this:

https://www.walthers.com/ge-dash-8-40c-w-dcc-master-r-ferrocarriles-nacionales-de-mexico-fnm-15014-2-tone-blue-orange-white

But whatever I looked up and found didn't seem to say anything about Atlas.

Yeah, the Walthers search function (and their product descriptions) seems to be somewhat random.

My search was for "DCC-Master(R)" (no spaces) as it appeared in the original post, and I got nine hits.

But searching for "DCC - Master(R)", with spaces before and after the dash, gives no results whatsoever.  And as Randy noted, no N-scale results in either search.

But the vagarities of the search notwithstanding, the phrase the OP was asking about is still nothing more than a snippet of the way Walthers has described at least some DCC sound-equipped Master-series Atlas locos.

I've notice the one constant thing about Walthers search, it's a good list of things out of stock, discontinued, sold out, on back order, or special order.

Having their product number doesn't help much.

Instead of relying on all the rampant speculation in this thread, I simply went to the Walthers Web site and did a search for "DCC-Master(R)" (without the quotes).  I got a whopping nine hits.

Four of them are Atlas HO scale Master(R) Gold Series locos that have LokSound DCC.

The other five of them are Atlas O 2-rail Master(R) Gold Series locos that have QSI DCC.

So they are nothing more that Atlas Master series locos that are factory-equipped with DCC sound decoders. The (R) just means that Atlas has registered the "Master" trademark.

Well the old Atlas DCC system was the Atlas DCC Master. Where this falls within the Walthers products is anyone's guess. It's like everyone else - Atlas has Gold and Silver and Trainman.

Hi, Outdoorsman and — Welcome

One site that you might find helpful is the DCC Wiki:

https://dccwiki.com/Main_Page

You can sort through articles here that explain some basics. It is a lot to comprehend at first.

Hopefully this will help you get a grasp of the basics.

Regards, Ed

Most of us wouldn't recognize that term.

Just a product line name from Walthers. Given the price I would say it comes with a cut down budget decoder. Marketing speak, not technical speak.
