How will I know if JMRI is working?
Posted by joe323 on Thursday, February 8, 2018 9:16 AM

Last night I connected my Powercab to the NCE USB interface after downloading the driver and JMRI but I am not sure that everything is communicating.

I thought there is a little LED on the interface but I do not see anything So how do I know when locomotive accepts a CV change will it move like a program change from the powerca?

Why not read, change, read, rewrite the old content and read again a CV eg.g. CV 1?

If JMRI can't "talk" to your command station, or otherwise doesn't get a response that the write completed successfully, JMRI will tell you that the attempt failed and give you an error code:

I use Digitrax but my initial check to see if JMRI is actually communicating with the Command station is to simply open a throttle and cycle track power on and off. If that works, it is connected.

Joe, I'll be using JMRI for the first time, in a couple days, setting up the address, head light/reverse light, with the Rule 17, and all the ditch light functions, all Digitrax, on a an Amtrak P42 project.  All of this for the first time.

I'll let you know how it goes!  Laugh

Mike.
