Randy,  The layout has already been wired and I have been using the NCE Power Cab.  When I wired the layout I used a buzzer, I forget where I found out how to rig it up probably on Allan Gartner's web site, so there are no polarity issues there.  It looks like I just wire the red wire to one of the SB5 connectors and the black to the other.  In other words, the color choice has already been made.  I agree about light, but I have a portable spotlight which makes underneath the layout look like it is in the bright sunshine.

Makes no difference, but once you decide which way you are wiring it, it MUST remain consistent for the entire layout. For my around the room layout, I put the Red bus wire on the Rear side. Unless you already bought the black wire, consider white - in less than bright light, red and black look similar, whereas red and white are very distinct.

I have two power subdistricts on my layout with a PSX circuit breaker wired into each subdistrict.  I just got an NCE SB5 and before I wire it in, I want to know if there are any polarity issues when I wire in the track bus lines.  I am using red and black wires for the bus and I assume that it makes no difference if the red is wired into the left and the black to the right or vice versa.  The wiring instructions do NOT indicate any distinction.
