I was recently investigating whistles myself and looking at the Loksound sound file offerings. I have a brass NYC B-11L 0-6-0 switcher, which - from my understanding - used a Nathan 5-chime. I love Loksound decoders but they are still fairly limited on the amount of sound files for American steam locomotives.
My hope is that there are additional sound files in the near future for Loksound. Until then I would look at the TCS WowSteam decoders, who presently have 60 "individual" whistles available and a whole slew of sound sets. And the motor-control on the TCS decoders is on par with if not better than the ESU offerings.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
In researching the latest gen of steam sound decoders, I only recently became aware of LokSound's new "Full Throttle" sound sets for steam.
The YouTube videos I could find were impressive, and have me interested. But I model East Coast mid Atlantic subjects (PRR, Reading, B&O) and the whistles available on the 3 or 4 current full throttle steam sound sets are 1) not really appropriate for my subject and 2) very few in number. There was one set that had one PRR freight "banshee", and that's it.
Does anyone know if LokSound has additional steam full throttle sets in the works?
