N gauge train engines wont work

I have a simple layout for Christmas. I have 2 sets, both Bachman and had one of the engines working just fine the other day. I went to run it again and no action from the engine at all. I had a new set that I opened and tried to use the engine from it and got the same results, nothing. Swapped out transformers and power tracks etc. I got a track tester today and every section shows full voltage in both directions. Put the engines on and neither will work or light up, and the track tests dead with an engine on it. In both directions. I can't believe that both engines (one I've had for 4 years and one I just got) are problems. I have checked all of the track connections and all are connected and smooth. And, as I said before, the track tests just fine when there is no engine on it.

Check the track for power with your tester with a locomotive on the track.
A puny connection between the power pack and the track could be your problem, failing under load.
Could be a bad crimp connector or a broken wire.
Does your power pack have an overload indicator, wheels not on the track correctly can short and the locomotive won’t run.
