I am speed matching the following locos : Athearn SD70 I and Rapido Dash8-40CM. Both locos have Loksound Select sound decoders installed. The Athearn is a custom install while the Rapido is factory. I did succeed to speed match these locos pretty evenly. The problem is the Athearn loco has a slight delay moving at speed step one, on both locos CV3 and CV4 are both set at 0 (zero). If I increase CV3 on the Rapido loco I can reduce the delay a bit but can't reduce it to nil. Is there anything I can do to the Athearn ?

If CV 3 and CV 4 are zero, then neither engine is using any momentum. The higher those numbers are, the higher the momentum setting. Usually a little momentum is good, with a new engine I usually set CV 3 & 4 at 15 and work from there...but some folks don't like any momentum.
You can go two ways to get them start together. You can either increase CV 3 (start momentum) for the Rapido engine, which will delay it's starting to move. Maybe start at 5 and go up by 5s (5-10-15 etc)until it matches the Athearn engine. Otherwise, you can increase CV 2 (start step) of the Athearn engine until it starts to move at the same time as the Rapido engine.
Thanks Stix for the reply, I did try different value in CV2 - CV3 for both locos. Increasing CV2 for the Athearn loco has no effect on the delay wich seems 3 seconds to me. As of now both locos start at speed step one an run well. The only problem remains that delay in the Athearn. I did also increase CV3 to the Rapido, I am mow at a value of 44 in that CV and still that delay. I will try increasing that value until I get rid of the delay or reach max value.
Could the Athearn have the brake release delay set to on, while the Rapido's is set to off? Sorry, I don't have access to the manuals or my notes right now to tell you which CV(s) to look at, but might be worth a try. I had to shut that feature off on my Loksounds that I was trying to consist with Lokpilots. I couldn't get the Lokpilots to mimic that function and was experiencing something basically identical to what you are.
