Micro Engineering Turnout wiring
Posted by RayG8 on Friday, December 8, 2017 7:35 PM

I have 1 ME #6 that shorts as soon as metal wheels touch the frog. The frog is not powered since I have no problems running locomotives through the other like turnouts. The rest of the turnout rails have no issue. Any one have any ideas before I remove the t.o. and replace it.

I don't use ME turnouts, but like all turnouts one of the stock rails may have moves slightly to make contact with the frog.

Test the frog with no trains on the layout and see if the problem is still there. The frog should either be inert, or powered by the position of the turnout.

Examine all of the rails touching the frog to besure that there is a proper gap.

The other problem can be under the turnout. There are jumpers embedded in the ties to assure continuity. There could be contact there, perhaps a under injected tie assembly.

All of these conditions can be fixed if you remove the turnout from the layout and work on it on the work bench.

(Lion just googled the item number... Him builds computers so him is used to googling specifications.)

You nailed it, one of the stock rails was incontact with the frog!
