I have an older HO Atlas Master Series DCC / Sound locomotive. My friend programmed the road number on his dcc system. It ran fine. I ran it on my dcc layout and it ran fine. When i got my JMRI system last month I changed some of the volume settings. When i went to run it again, it did nothing. I put it back on the JMRI program track and it read CV7, CV8 not responding. Did I fry the decoder?

Would that be with the QSI decoder and the magic wand?
Unless you did something supercreative with wiring your JMRI system, the decoder should not be fried by changing volume settings. I would try resetting the decoder.
You might take the pliers off the tracks before you try a reset.

Just reset the decoder and reprogram it. It's usually either CV8=8 or CV30=2...

What brand of decoder is it, and which DCC system are you running?
You might try bypassing JMRI and re-programming the decoder on your programming track.

Program the address and make sure that CV29 is set to the appropriate value for a short (2 digit) or long address.
BigDaddy You might take the pliers off the tracks before you try a reset.
Way ahead of you. My pliers have insulated handles.

Thanks everyone for your help, I got it running. I went into JMRI and noticed it was deleted from the roster. I then added it to the roster, but still would not respond. I reset it and went to the roster and saw the address was now 3. I programmed in the number in the long address and it took it. Put it on the layout and ran great.
Thanks for the update, willy6. It's always nice to be able to reset a decoder when something happens, or we forgot what value we put in for a particular CV. That has bailed me out a few times.
