You are correct Dave, I found that part number on another site as a Latching reed switch.  I didn’t read the description, the COM-08642 was listed as a bistable reed switch.  It was listed as a replacement for a KSK-1E66.

Hi Mel:

I read the description for the reed switches that you linked to, and they are non-latching. Did you maybe link to the wrong product?

After reading the Hidden Control article in the September RMC I went looking for some bistable (latching) reed switches.  I found this site with a Google Search.
 
 
$1.95 is a pretty good price.  I’m in pretty good shape for latching reed switches, I bought 20 off eBay a few months back at $2.00 each.  I’ve installed 13 swirchws in various cabooses and other cars with lights,
